Prophecy Part 2

Monday Prophecy Series – Part 2: The Prophecy of Your Words

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue..." — Proverbs 18:21

Have you ever stopped to ask what that verse really means?

Genesis tells us that Adam and Eve were created in the image of God. Humanity was designed to reflect the heart, character, and nature of our Creator. Sin shattered that reflection, and the world has been speaking the language of death ever since.

But something changed at the cross.

When we are born again, we become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Our old man was crucified with Christ, and we have been recreated in His image. We are no longer defined by who we were—we are defined by who Christ has made us to be.

If our identity has changed, then our speech should change as well.

Too often we continue speaking the language of our old life. We curse instead of bless. We lie instead of speak truth. We criticize instead of encourage. We tear people down instead of building them up. In those moments, we sound more like the world than the One who redeemed us.

Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:29, "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying." He goes on to say that corrupt speech grieves the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30).

Our words matter to God.

The writer of Hebrews warns those who deliberately reject Christ that they "crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh" (Hebrews 6:6). While that passage speaks specifically about apostasy, it reminds us of the seriousness of treating Christ's sacrifice with contempt. As believers, we should never make light of the grace that purchased our salvation.

Someone may ask, "Bro. Curtis, I thought Mondays were going to be about prophecy."

They are.

Proverbs 18:21 is a prophetic verse because our words reveal what is in our hearts and help shape the direction of our lives. Every word points somewhere. But not every word originates with God.

Many of our words come from our flesh.

Think about the word SIN:

S – Self
I – Interest
N – Now

The sinful nature says, "I want what I want, when I want it." The Spirit teaches us to desire what the Father desires.

Not only should our actions reflect Christ, but our words should as well.

When someone asks where you're going, you speak your destination. When you declare your goals, you're announcing a direction. When you speak over your family, your church, your children, or even yourself, your words influence hearts and expectations.

The question is not whether you are speaking.

The question is: Whose voice are you speaking?

I believe there are four ways our words can function prophetically:

• We can speak from the flesh, expressing sinful desires.
• We can speak for the flesh, promoting human ambitions and self-interest.
• We can speak for the enemy by agreeing with fear, lies, unbelief, and anything that contradicts God's Word.
• We can hear from God and speak what He says, bringing truth, hope, encouragement, correction, and life.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Every sentence plants a seed. Every conversation moves someone toward life or toward death.

Today, ask yourself:

Am I speaking my desires, or am I speaking the desires of my Father?

Join me next Monday as we discover how every believer can become a voice through which God speaks life to the world.
